When using a webcam to "video chat" with other people is there a 3 second or so delay or should you be able to see people's lips moving in real time? |

craig, there is going to be a delay, and depending on what kind of Software CODEC you are using it can be anywhere from miliseconds to several seconds. The higher the quality of video you are using the higher the delay is. On our stream at work we encode live video from a news channel and it has a 16.5 second delay from when it leaves my lab until the user sees it, but that is because we are using a high quality encoder that takes some time to translate the data. There are some delay times or "lip sync" functions put into the algorythm but it is not going to be perfect. Even in dedicated bandwidth Videoconferencing we have a split second delay. |

Thanks Bubble. My parents want to be able to chat with the grandkids via webcam and so far they are really dissappointed with the delay. It's only about 3 seconds, but it confuses the kids. |

Don't feel too bad, you didn't actually help with anything. Basically you just confirmed that the delay is normal. Preesh. |

Yeah, it is called latency. Stuff take some amount of time to go over the internet. Do both ends have a GOOD internet connection? BTW: in my experience (3 different DSL's) DSL blows goat ass for Latency, and Video Conferencing. I will take my old POS Comcast anyday. |
